M (2010?)
"M" is the working title for Russian Spy Camera's 3rd album. It has been a slow work-in-progress since mid 2008. About 10 songs have been worked on/completed and many more ideas have been considered. However, no track list exists at this time. M is projected to be completed and released in 2010 or early 2011.
M originally started out as an idea to wrap up some "loose end" songs that have been lying around for years but have not made it onto previous recordings. However, shortly after the release of Mutiny In The Kitchen With Knives, Ryan traveled to Turkey for two months and then backpacked through Europe. During the three months he was in Europe ideas for M started to be put down on paper along with snippets of lyrics. Unfortunately, the process for the album's development has been slow and litered with periods of writer's block.
The initial idea behind M is to write a cliché album about a person without being cliché... which doesn't make much sense at first. The person in question, "M", is not defined but rather described. The songs themselves play with the theme of "love and heartbreak", even though that's the last thing this world needs ("Oh no he didn't" ;). So the challenge has been to write interesting songs about these topics that don't come off as cheesy even if it means boring the listener.
In other words, M is a more personal album that is trying to be easy without sounding bad. Several approaches to how the songs should be composed have been considered: some of the songs want to be nice soft compositions while other songs seem to want to be clever and electronic. And then there's the urge to just rock out on a few others, but those songs are more the minority.
In any case, songs are being written and worked on. Hopefully there will be a release in 2010.
